So the weekend started off very very early to say the least. I got up at 4:15 to get ready to leave and get Diane by 5am. I had the car packed for the most part. I was pretty awake for being so early but did get an energy drink anyways. So when I went out to leave I turned on the lights and there she was again in the front yard chomping away.. a doe. She is soooo pretty but when there is a doe there is a buck somewhere and I have no interest in getting hurt by one. So 8 piece and I watched for a few seconds until I had to leave. The first part the the trip was not too eventful. We had a good time chatting and got there in a good amount of time. We got to wilmington in good time BUT just happened to miss our turn so we got lost and asked someone where to go and they told us to go back. Then we got the brilant idea to use the gps that we brought! O it was too early to think. So we got it out but ended up putting in wilminton instead of wrightsville beach and the thing was giving us wrong directions. Thankfully I had called Ron who told me where to go so I just followed what he said. We got parked and started walking but thankfully again we stoped and asked someone because we totally would have gone the wrong way. Diane and I met Ron at the transition area for the swim to bike part. Alex did fantastic in her swim! She was right on pace for what she wanted her best time to be. She got fifth overall! We cheered for her and took pictures and were a very supportive fan group. I had made two signs for Alex. One said Go Alex and the other said " think fat tony's" ... thats her fav place to eat here and thats where we went for dinner.. more on that later.
From the swim to bike we had about 3 hours to kill. Ron decided to go to Port city java while Diane and I did a little touring the town (getting lost again) and window shopping. We ended up meeting Ron at the coffee place and brought food with us. :) From there we had to take a ferry over to the second transition area. We waited around for a good while and finally saw Alex again. We of course cheered her on and I yelled.. " see you at mile 3!" So from there we got her bike and bike stuff and went over to meet her at mile 3.
Once we got back over to the other side from the ferry, my friend Matt was there. He lives close by and had the day off work. We havnt seen eachother in about 2 years and that was way too long. I have known him since I was 17. Anyways we picked him up and went to see Alex run at mile 3. She looked very good and relaxed and had a smile on her face. She was going pretty good. Of course she passed us so we had a bit of time until we saw her at mile 10 which was the same place as mile 3. We went and got some more snacks from the car, put up her bike and got some coffee at port city java again. We all had a good time talking and everything. From there we went back outside to meet Alex for one last time at mile 10. She was still running and still looked good. I yelled to her "your my hero!!" And she ran past. We all went straight to the ferry to get over to see her finish at the line. The ferry line was longer than ever! I kept looking at my watch every 2 seconds. Me and my being on time was making me panic. All I could think was what if we fail to meet her at the finish. She needs that support for sure there! I was sooooo upset but trying to hold it together.
Finally we got to the other side and i just started running through the crowd to find her. All I was doing was looking for a yellow visor. I didnt see one so I just stood at the finish. Everyone followed behind me and then.... THERE SHE WAS going over the finish line! Phew! She just stopped at the finish and then she was crying (i could totally relate from the marathon) and she just said... " i didnt think i was going to finish" But she DID! Everyone was so proud of her for sure. She then made a beline for the beer stand. I took some pictures then all of her stuff and then had to find a restroom. I then went and got all of the other 2 transistion bags that where hers and Matt and Diane stood in the ferry line to get back becuase it was extreemly long. I went back for Ron and Alex and we all got in line and she just chatted about everything. The ferry line must have taken about 45 minutes or so. We made it back to the mainland and went to get the cars to pick Alex up. But when we were halfway there we realized we wouldnt be able to because of the runners still on the road. So we had to go back and break the bad news. I think she figured it out after she saw us walking back. We all got back to the cars and went to get ready to go to fat tony's. ....................
More to come later... its late and im hungry. (11:08pm) still need some dinner :)
